I’m not sure yet if we’re cooking or letting other folks cook for us this year, but either way I’ve got some serious cravings for holiday food.
A few favorites:
Jellied Cranberry Sauce from Vegan YumYum: I love the homemade stuff, but year after year Wayne would insist on that gunk in a can. Solution: make this stuff and chill it in a can.
Vegan Green Bean Casserole from Vegweb:Â This is a much nicer version of the classic.
Almost All-American Seitan Pot Pie from Veganomicon: I tested this recipe for Isa and Terry, and this dish went straight onto my favorites list. Yes, it’s a bit of work to prepare this, but it is absolutely worth it. Tip: use tiny cookie cutters on the “scraps” of dough and stick them on top of the pot pie. Adorable little leaves, perhaps?
Lemon Cheesecake from The Joy of Vegan Baking: Our dear friend Jen made this for us and it’s been a favorite ever since. I think this would be a lovely finish to a hearty Thanksgiving dinner.
Some recipes we want to try:
Stuffed celery sticks: Holidays at my adorable in-laws usually involves munching on these yummy celery sticks stuffed with a cream cheese-olive filling. I think a dairy-free version using Tofutti cream cheese would be just as yummy.
Gardein Chicken Scaloppini from The Conscious Cook:Â I watched chef Tal Ronnen make this on television and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.
Double-Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake from FatFree Vegan Kitchen:Â We’ve heard so many rave reviews and we can’t believe we haven’t tried this one yet.
Gingerbread Apple Pie from Vegan with a Vengeance:Â I dunno, something tells me this would make a lot of folks extremely happy.
