As I mentioned earlier this week, Wayne and I are very interested in the 2008 elections and feel that there are some issues we must vote on.
One that we feel strongly about is Proposition 8, which seeks to eliminate the right of gays to marry by changing the California Constitution. We believe that love is love, and consenting adults should be able to express that love through legally recognized marriage. We are so happy that we had the right to get married and to know that our marriage is recognized by the state of California. We are lucky to enjoy the benefits that come with being married. We feel that the marriages of our gay friends and family should be equally recognized and come with the same benefits that we have. We are supposed to have a separation of church and state, so even if we felt gay marriage was against our spiritual beliefs (it isn’t) we don’t feel it would be appropriate to let those beliefs interfere with equal rights. We are very glad to be voting no on prop 8.
