The election is a week away, and it’s no secret by now how we’re voting in the presidential election. Wayne and I normally do not like to talk politics, especially at dinner parties, but there are some propositions on this year’s ballot which are motivating us to go to the polls next Tuesday. We’ll spend some time this week talking about a couple of them.
The first is Prop 2. If passed, farm animals in California will receive more humane treatment. We feel strongly that animals, whether they are pets or raised for food, deserve to live comfortably. Prop 2 is a step in the right direction by mandating that chickens, pigs and cows have enough room to move their limbs. Currently, these animals can legally be kept in harsh confinement, such as battery cages (for egg-laying chickens) and gestation crates (for pigs). Although it won’t solve all of our problems regarding animals in the food industry, we feel strongly that voting yes on Prop 2 is the way to go.
