It’s the start of a new year, so I guess it’s time for some New Year resolutions. I have a few, nothing special or all that interesting, but if I write them down here hopefully they will be more real.
1. Lose 20 Pounds
I know it’s cliche, but I spent most of 2012 plateaued at my current weight (give or take a few pounds). In 2013 I want to do a better job of losing those extra pounds.
2. Run a Half Marathon
With a baby arriving in may, this is defintiely a stretch goal. For the past few months I’ve been running 3 miles, three times a week, most weeks. I’m enjoying running, and the more consistently I run the better I feel. I doubt I will ever be able to do a full marathon, I’m just too busy to train for that, but 13.1 miles feels attainable. Like I said, though, it is a stretch goal. A more realistic one is continuing with my 3 mile runs after the baby is born.
3. Blog More
I love writing, and if I am ever going to add “write a novel” to my list of resolutions then I need to make time to get the words in. I think the key is keep the posts short and sweet, at least for now, and work my way up to the longer 1k posts that are my goal.
4. Run Some Quantified Self Experiments
In 2012 I attended a few Quantified Self meetups, and I’ve seen some really amazing talks. Running an experiment on yourself has numerous problems, it’s about as far from a double-blind experiment as you can get, but they are not without value. I’m still trying to formulate what I want to do and accomplish, but it will give me something to blog about over at the Quantified Wayne.
5. Take More Pictures
I love photography, but I am horrible at it. I need to get out there and take more pictures, especially pictures of the kids, and post them online.
Onward!
