I am participating a A Terrible Idea‘s experiment in gaming called “I Am Your Champion.” I Am Your Champion, which is using #iayc hashtag on Twitter, is a five round experiment designed to challenge the normal ideas about charitable fundraising. I will be blogging about it here over the next few days and chatting about it on Twitter, and we will see if I am able to complete the game.
So, first, my charitable cause is helping the discarded and unwanted companion birds in the bay area. This is probably not a surprise to anyone who knows me. The charity I am going to raise money for is the Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue.
Now, step two (this is Tuesday). To help offset the massive vet bills, Mickaboo has an Angel program. Mickaboo’s goal is to have an “endowment” of at least $200 before taking in a new bird. My goal is to raise enough money to be an Angel.
But this is about creating, about being a one person fundraiser, so donors get something from me as well. If I can raise $200, I will release a “cookzine” containing 32Â vegan game night recipes. The cookzine will be released under the Creative Commons license, so you don’t have to donate to download it once it’s complete. If you donate $20, however, I will mail you a physical copy of the ‘zine as well. If you donate $50, I will list you in the back of the ‘zine as a totally awesome contributor. I will keep none of the donations, 100% of the money raised will be donated to Mickaboo’s Angel program.
I have submitted the project to kickstarter.com in the hopes I can use their website to collect the funding. If they reject it, I will figure something else out. Pledges are fine, and you can pledge here, on twitter, or by email if you know my email address.
This should be interesting, I look forward to seeing what happens over the next few days.
Wayne, I’m in! Let me know when the kickstarter (or alternative) comes up and I will donate what I can afford!
Awesome Noam! The donate button is now up. 🙂
