Silly Parade and Potluck

We had another full weekend, but then there is nothing new about that. 🙂

Friday night I played in a Dark Heresy game. It was my first time playing in the WH40k universe, and I had a blast. It’s an incredibly rich and cool setting, even if it’s mostly stolen from other science fiction settings. It was supposed to be a single session, but unfortunately we didn’t finish. Hopefully I’ll get the chance to join the group for the end of the scenario.

On Saturday Raelene and I took Corinne to the 4th Annual, 1st ever, Richmond Silly Parade. Richmond has a lot of problems, so the motivation for the parade was to step away from them for a little while and get silly. The rain held off for the entire parade, which was good. Unfortunately that was the best thing I can say about it, though. The parade organizers announced every group in the parade, in both English and Spanish, making the whole thing painfully slow. It also didn’t help that the announcements were essentially commercials. Worse still were the blatant political agendas of some of the groups marching as well as the organizers. Raelene didn’t seem to mind it much, but I found it incredibly offensive. You don’t organize a silly parade to lure people in and push your politics, that’s just wrong. Corinne seemed mostly bored by the whole thing, and I have no desire to sit through another one.

On a brighter note, Sunday Raelene threw an epic PPK potluck. People came from as far away as Portland. Okay, the Portlanders were already in town, but still. 🙂 The company was spectacular and the food was, as always, amazing. It kicked off a little after 3, and ran until almost 8. Corinne was a bit shy at first, but then decided she loved all the attention. Zoe and Andre seemed to be okay with it as well. We saw some old friends, made some new friends, ate way too much, and had a blast. It was really a lot of fun.

And that was about it for our weekend. Not bad!
