I spent the better part of yesterday helping the birds affected by last week’s oil spill. It’s pretty disturbing to see how badly the wildlife has been suffering because of human negligence, and to see how little organized effort there is to remedy the situation.
In spite of how bleak the situation is, I was in the presence of some pretty awesome people yesterday. Some folks were catching oiled birds, some were bringing birds on bicycle to the folks who were waiting to transport them, folks came by with food and water and towels. A handful of us delivered the birds to nearby rescue centers.
There are really good people in the world, and they are my heroes.
